While the preparations for this year’s edition of the Berlin Performing Arts Festival are running at top speed, we would like to a look into the future and address the question of how things should continue with the Berlin Performing Arts Festival as of 2024.

A few days ago, we received word that the application we submitted for continued funding as of 2024 to the Berlin festival fund was not approved. This is, of course, very disappointing for us – and is a disastrous signal to Berlin’s independent performing arts community. This means that your participation on May 12 is even more important for us to be able to look into the future together and develop a strategy for continuing to increase the visibility of the independent performing arts community together.

The participatory format in multiple parts, The PAF of the Future, has been dedicated to possible forms of dramaturgy and new curatorial principles in the past rounds of discussion which now are intended to be further developed and specified. In addition, we also want to pose the following question in the third part of this series: who are we actually putting on the festival for? What target groups do we want to address and what can that look like specifically? How can we find new audiences? What opportunities can communication formats provide?

Members of the independent performing arts community, visitors and all interested parties are invited to help to shape the festival in an interactive format and be a part of its new orientation. This event will be moderated and conceptualized by the initiative YAWI (You Are Warmly Invited).
